When the sea shapes a way of life and the land demands patience, a wisdom is born that isn't written down: it is passed on with human hands. The hands that sow, weave, strike, tune and hold are the hands that built the human landscape of the Canaries.
The biggest surprise for a first-time visitor is what you hear: many of the instruments aren't instruments at all. They are farming tools, workshop implements and everyday objects from the sea turned into percussion, held together by multi-part singing and large-scale visual staging.
It runs 75 minutes with no interval, in a 700-seat municipal auditorium ten minutes from the hotels of Los Cristianos and Las Américas. There is no dialogue to translate: it's a musical and visual show, so it works just as well in any language.
Who's behind it: Compañía Pieles
Pieles is the most awarded traditional Canarian music group in the islands: Premios Canarios de la Música, Premio Atlántico Sonoro, Premio 40 Principales and Premio Réplica. Ten years of work, over 300 performances in the Canaries and beyond, six shows and five albums.
Their strongest credential isn't an award but several resident seasons at Los Jameos del Agua in Lanzarote, and a local audience that fills the room. This isn't a product built for tourists: it's what already worked with Canarians, now programmed one fixed night a week in the south.

How to get there
The Auditorio Infanta Leonor sits in Los Cristianos, next to the town centre and the harbour. Ten minutes by car from Las Américas or Costa Adeje, with parking nearby; by bus, the southern lines stop at the Los Cristianos station, a few minutes' walk away. Since seats aren't numbered, arriving close to doors opening (7:30 pm) gets you the best ones.

Do I need to speak Spanish to enjoy it?
No. It's a musical and visual show: percussion, singing, everyday objects turned into instruments and staging. There is no dialogue to follow, so language isn't a barrier.
Is it a dinner show?
No, and that's the key difference. It's staged in a municipal auditorium, with no dinner or drinks. The fair comparison isn't a hotel tribute act but going to the theatre: have dinner in Los Cristianos beforehand and arrive by 7:30 pm.
Can children come?
Yes, it's suitable for all ages and usually works very well with children: the percussion, the rhythm and the sounding objects hold their attention without needing to understand a word. Bear in mind it finishes at 9:45 pm.
Can I choose my seat?
Seats aren't numbered: you pick your own on arrival. Doors open at 7:30 pm, an hour before the start, and that's when the best seats go.
Which days is it performed?
Every Wednesday at 8:30 pm from 7 October, at the Auditorio Infanta Leonor in Los Cristianos. If your dates in Tenerife don't include a Wednesday, message us and we'll suggest another cultural option.
