Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost, and is it per person or per buggy?
Per buggy, not per person: €200 for the 2-seater, €250 for the 4-seater and €360 for the 6-seater. A 4-seater with four people works out at €62.50 each, which is what makes it the best-value motor plan for families and groups. The price includes the buggy, the route guide, the briefing, basic insurance and hotel pickup.
What licence do I need to drive?
A category B driving licence held for at least 2 years, and the physical card: a photo or a copy is not accepted, except for Spanish nationals. Only the driver needs it; passengers do not. And closed shoes are compulsory for the driver.
Can children come?
Yes, depending on the buggy: in the 4-seater from age 3, and in the 2-seater the child must be at least 1.35 m tall. Children always ride as passengers; whoever drives needs a licence.
What routes are there and how long are they?
Three: Offroad, 3 hours of dirt tracks, mornings only; Teide + Offroad, 4 hours, morning or afternoon; and Sunset + Teide, 3 hours at dusk, with no off-road section. All three leave from the King Buggy office in Las Chafiras.
What time does it start and where is the pickup?
In the morning departure is at 9:00 (hotel pickup at 8:20); in the afternoon at 14:45, returning around 18:45 (pickup at 14:00); and the sunset with pickup at 18:00, adjusted to sunset time. Hotel pickup is included but covers a specific area of the south: we confirm when you book whether it reaches your accommodation or whether it is better to go to the office in Las Chafiras.
How do I pay, and is there a deposit?
A booking deposit is paid when you reserve and the rest is paid directly at the King Buggy office on the day of the route; we detail the amounts on confirmation. There is also a security deposit for the vehicle, returned when it is handed back undamaged; we confirm the amount together with the booking.
What should I bring?
Closed shoes for the driver, sunglasses, sunscreen and a jacket: the Teide route climbs to 2,300 metres and it is considerably colder there than on the coast, even in summer. The tracks are dusty, so wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Meals are not included.
Do I need experience to drive a buggy?
No. There is a safety briefing before setting off and the guide leads the route the whole way; with a licence and common sense anyone can drive it. It is driven with a steering wheel and pedals, with a seat belt and a roll cage: for anyone who has never driven one, it is more intuitive than a quad.
Which language is the briefing in?
We confirm it when you book, depending on the guide on that shift: tell us your language and we let you know before closing whether it is available that day.
What if it rains or is windy on Teide?
In bad weather at altitude the provider may change the route — for example, do only the off-road section — or move the date. The cancellation conditions are King Buggy’s and we confirm them to you in writing before you book.
How is the booking confirmed?
Excursions Canaries checks availability, provider conditions and the traveller's level before confirming the experience.
